Elements of the Sinaloa State Preventive Police arrested two hitmen after repelling a direct attack in the rural area of the municipality of Mazatlán . The operation concluded with the seizure of a stolen vehicle, tactical equipment, doses of narcotics, and six assault rifles .
The incident occurred near the town of Lomas de Monterrey. State agents were conducting preventative patrols when they spotted a suspicious pickup truck. Upon noticing the approaching patrol cars, the vehicle's occupants opened fire on the officers.
In response to the attack, the police returned fire and initiated a chase that lasted several minutes on the local roads. The pursuit ended when patrol cars blocked the path of an SUV . Once the situation was under control, officers subdued and arrested two of the shooters at the scene.
The Interinstitutional Group's support protocol, comprised of agencies from all three levels of government, was immediately activated. Federal and state officers deployed a search perimeter around the area to locate the remaining members of the criminal group, who managed to escape on foot through the terrain during the exchange of gunfire. Authorities reported that the situation was under control and no officers were injured.
Following the technical inspection of the vehicle and the area of the confrontation , the personnel of the state corporation inventoried the seizure of the following war materiel and illicit material:
Six AK-47 type assault rifles, caliber 7.62 x 39 millimeters.
Thirty-six properly loaded magazines for the same caliber.
Four operational tactical vests.
Twelve doses of a powdered substance with the physical characteristics of cocaine.
A Mazda brand truck, CX-50 line, model 2026, which had a current theft report.
The two detainees, the firearms, ammunition, tactical equipment, drugs, and the seized vehicle were transferred under guard to the facilities of the Attorney General's Office. Everything was placed at the disposal of the Federal Public Prosecutor's Office, the agency responsible for conducting the corresponding investigations, opening the case file, and determining the legal status of those involved.
