On 6 June 2026, an IED planted by suspected Houthi forces detonated targeting a convoy of the 1st Division of the National Resistance forces (coded under WCJF) in Al Khawkhah district (coded to district center Al Khawkhah) (Al Hudaydah). The explosion resulted in 2 fatalities - the Division commander, prominent Brigadier-General Yahya al-Wahish, and an escort - and injured 2 other escorts. Two of the perpetrators were arrested, and confessed that the Houthis were behind the operation.
