On 7 June 2026, Moroccan armed forces conducted a drone strike in the buffer zone east of the security wall near Gleibat El Foula (Oued Ed-Dahab, Eddakhla-Oued Eddahab), killing Polisario Front commander Lahbib Mohamed Abdelaziz, the son of former Polisario leader Mohamed Abdelaziz, along with two other Polisario members identified as Ghali Louchaa and Salek Mohsen. According to Polisario sources, the three individuals were coordinating attacks against Moroccan military positions at the time of the strike.
