SAA event in Morocco on Fri 30th January 2026

In recent hours, the city of Ouarzazate has witnessed a major security mobilization following the shooting of police officers belonging to the regional security in the same city by people involved in drug smuggling.

Initial data indicates that the regional security services in Ouarzazate received accurate information from the General Directorate for Territorial Surveillance stating that there was a utility vehicle carrying drugs, and the national security elements tracked it and tried to stop it, after notifying the competent public prosecutor's office.

When officers from the General Directorate of National Security attempted to stop the vehicle, its occupants opened fire on the police, leading to an exchange of gunfire. Security forces managed to seize and impound the vehicle, while the suspects escaped to an unknown location.
