The mayor of San Miguel Amatitlán, Oaxaca, Joel Ángel Bravo Martínez, was shot and killed at his home; the state prosecutor's office has launched an investigation.
Joel Ángel Bravo Martínez , mayor of San Miguel Amatitlán, Oaxaca , was murdered on Saturday morning, June 13, in an armed attack at his home. The Oaxaca State Attorney General's Office (FGEO) confirmed the start of an investigation to solve the crime and bring those responsible to justice.
On Saturday morning, around 8:00 a.m. , a group of armed men entered the home of the mayor of San Miguel Amatitlán , where they allegedly carried out the attack that ended the life of Joel Ángel Bravo Martínez .
According to initial reports, the assailants arrived at the mayor's home and opened fire. Following the attack, authorities were notified and an investigation was launched in the area.
The Oaxaca State Attorney General's Office reported that ministerial and expert work has begun to clarify the events that occurred against the mayor.
In a statement, the institution indicated that it will conduct the investigations with technical and scientific rigor, in addition to incorporating inter-institutional operational intelligence work to determine the mechanics of the attack.
The agency also indicated that it will seek to identify both the perpetrators and masterminds of the homicide, with the aim of preventing impunity in this case.
On May 22 , Joel Bravo reported being the victim of an alleged highway robbery on the Acatlán-Oaxaca road , near the municipality of Santiago Petlalcingo, Puebla .
According to reports, the mayor was traveling in a pickup truck with three members of his staff when he was intercepted by unknown individuals. The assailants forced him out of the vehicle and allegedly robbed him of his belongings.
So far, authorities have not reported whether there is any connection between that incident and the homicide that occurred this Saturday.
Investigations continue to determine the circumstances surrounding the attack against the mayor of San Miguel Amatitlán , while state authorities are pursuing several lines of inquiry.
