The Security Service of Ukraine has established that the Russian Federation struck the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra with a Geran-2 unmanned aerial vehicle, which is a Russian version of the Iranian Shahed kamikaze drone.

This conclusion was made based on an analysis of the drone debris found at the impact site.

As the investigation found, the enemy attacked the monastery complex at 01:50 on June 15, 2026, during the massive shelling of the capital of Ukraine.

According to the results of the inspection of the scene, SBU officers discovered fragments of the hull and engine of a Russian suicide drone that hit the Stefanivsky chapel of the Assumption Cathedral on the territory of the Lavra.

During the inspection of the wreckage of the enemy drone, it was found that some of its components were manufactured on the territory of the Russian Federation in the Alabuga special economic zone.

This is evidenced by the corresponding markings found on fragments of the Russian drone.

As a result of the enemy attack, the roof, domes, walls, and glazing of the cathedral were damaged. There were no fatalities or injuries.

The blast wave also damaged neighboring civil infrastructure buildings in the Pechersk district of Kyiv.

Security Service investigators qualify this strike as a war crime and have already initiated criminal proceedings under Part 1 of Article 438 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. Comprehensive measures are being taken to establish all the circumstances of the Russian attack and bring the perpetrators to justice.

Comprehensive measures are ongoing under the procedural guidance of the Kyiv City Prosecutor's Office.
