Troops Arrest Two Suspected Drug Peddlers, Recover Firearm in Plateau

By: Zagazola Makama

Troops of Operation Enduring Peace have arrested two suspected drug peddlers and recovered a locally fabricated pistol, ammunition and cartridges during an operation in Jos South Local Government Area of Plateau State.

Security sources said the suspects were arrested on Friday following intelligence on the movement of suspected drug dealers along the Rantya community axis of the local government area.

The suspects were identified as Ubama James, 26, and Desmond Okon, 29.

According to the sources, troops deployed at a checkpoint in the area swiftly blocked the road and intercepted the suspects, who were travelling in a black Toyota RAV4 vehicle with registration number WER 466LC.

A search conducted on the vehicle led to the recovery of one locally fabricated pistol, seven rounds of 9mm ammunition and three cartridges.

The suspects reportedly claimed during preliminary interrogation that they were members of the Forest Security Service at Rantya Station.

The suspects and the recovered items are currently in custody while further investigations are ongoing to determine the circumstances surrounding the possession of the firearm and ammunition.

Security authorities said efforts were continuing to uncover possible criminal links and ensure that anyone found culpable is brought to justice.
