IED event in Odisha, Kirimiti, Malkangiri District area, India on Wed 10th June 2026

On June 10, Security Forces (SFs) recovered a large cache of arms, ammunition and explosives from a Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) dump in the forest areas of Kirimiti and Katuapadar under Mathili Police Station limits in Malkangiri District, Odisha, near the Odisha-Chhattisgarh border, reports The New Indian Express. Acting on intelligence provided by surrendered Maoists, a joint team of the Border Security Force (BSF) and District Voluntary Force (DVF) launched a search operation in the area, located close to the Durva region of Bastar District in Chhattisgarh. The recovered materials included one INSAS (Indian Small Arms System) assault rifle, Light Machine Gun (LMG), two INSAS rifles, three Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs), one grenade, AK-series rifle magazines, electric detonators, wireless remote switches, a walkie-talkie set, gunpowder, batteries, communication equipment, Maoist uniforms and literature. Police suspect the cache belonged to cadres of the Andhra-Odisha Border Special Zonal Committee (AOBSZC) and was intended for future attacks on SFs operating along the Odisha-Chhattisgarh border. Malkangiri Superintendent of Police (SP) Vinod Patil stated that the seizure had significantly disrupted Maoist logistical and operational capabilities in the region.
