On June 8, a 58-year-old Rongmei Naga villager, Chungjanglung Panmei, was killed in a suspected Kuki militant attack in a forested area above Tupul village in Kangpokpi District, Manipur, reports India TodayNE. According to Police, a group of nine villagers from Pongringlong Part-I village had gone to collect firewood and repair water pipelines when unidentified armed assailants allegedly opened fire from a distance of about 500 metres. While the others escaped, Panmei sustained a gunshot injury and went missing. A search operation subsequently recovered his body at around 1:30 p.m. Preliminary examination revealed multiple bullet injuries, including head wounds, indicating he may have been shot at close range after being injured. The Pongringlong Youth Club alleged the involvement of Kuki militants, though Police have not identified the perpetrators. Investigations are ongoing.
