On June 7, two shooters identified as Vishnu Kumar and Rahul Mahawar were arrested near Kud Police Station on the PatnitopKud road in Udhampur District of Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) in connection with the killing of shopkeeper Gurcharan Singh Gaba at Makhu in Ferozepur district of Punjab on June 1, reports The Tribune. Police recovered a .30-bore Beretta pistol along with 10 live cartridges from their possession. According to police, Vishnu Kumar attempted to escape custody while being taken for the recovery of the weapon used in the crime. Near the Rajasthan Feeder canal, he allegedly opened fire on the police party after retrieving the weapon. Police retaliated, injuring him. Officials said Vishnu has a criminal history involving extortion, robbery, theft, and Arms Act violations. He was also carrying a reward of INR 10,000 announced by the Rajasthan Police. Additional Director General of Police (ADGP), Anti-Gangster Task Force (AGTF), Promod Ban stated that following the incident, a special operation code-named Hill Trap was launched under the supervision of Deputy Superintendent of Police Rajan Parminder Singh, with raids conducted in Rajasthan.
