On the night of May 5, along a section of the Sagara-Kopin road in Sinbaungwe Township, Thayet District, Magway Region, revolutionary forces attempted to inspect the vehicle of Prison Department officer Thet Soe and his companions as they were returning from a KTV. However, they forcefully drove away to escape, prompting a pursuit and gunfire that resulted in the deaths of Prison Department officer Thet Soe and a prison convict leader.

Items seized from their vehicle included one MA5 pistol, three magazines, two phones, and various documents. The deceased Prison Department officer, Thet Soe, was 49 years old.
