The IDF has completed an initial investigation into the infiltration attack by a gunman on the Lebanese border earlier today, but has not yet been able to determine his affiliation. According to the probe, at around 1:30 p.m., a soldier responsible for logistical transport arrived at the border near the community of Margaliot after the military received a report of a fire. The soldier then identified a suspicious figure in military uniform and dispatched troops to the scene. The troops arrived at the scene within a few minutes and then heard gunfire in their direction. The soldiers returned fire at the source, which led to the death of the gunman, the investigation finds. According to the military's probe, the incident took place in a military zone around 1,200 meters from the border community of Margaliot, but still inside Israeli territory. The military then conducted scans in the area, during which the body of the gunman was found inside Israeli territory, adjacent to the border fence. The gunman was found to be wearing a military uniform, and he was armed with a knife and a handgun. So far, the IDF has not been able to determine whether the gunman is affiliated with Hezbollah or another terror group. At 5:50 p.m., the IDF declared "all-clear" in the area, after ruling out any additional threats. A preliminary investigation was conducted by IDF commanders at the scene shortly after the incident, and a short while ago, the chief of the Northern Command, Maj. Gen. Rafi Milo completed a more complete debrief. The incident is expected to also be investigated by IDF Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Eyal Zamir.
