A bomb disposal team cordoned off a popular beach after reports of potential ordnance.
HM Coastguard received reports of possible ordnance at Pevensey Bay yesterday morning (June 8) at 11.38am.
Coastguard rescue teams from Bexhill and Eastbourne attended the scene with an Explosives Ordnance Disposal team.
The item was later found not to be ordnance and was disposed of.
A spokesperson for the Coastguard said: "At 11.38am yesterday (Monday June 8), HM Coastguard received reports of possible ordnance at Pevensey Bay, East Sussex.
"Coastguard Rescue Teams from Bexhill and Eastbourne were sent, along with an Explosives Ordnance Disposal team, who determined that the item was not ordnance and posed no danger to the public.
"The item was subsequently disposed of."
