On 7 July 2021, overnight unidentified militants targeted the US embassy with Katyusha rockets in the Green Zone of Baghdad - Karkh. US air defenses intercepted an unspecified number of the rockets. Three of the rockets landed in the Green Zone near the Sheikh Omar residential area, the office of the Iraqi National Security Agency, and Ihtifalat square. One of the rockets damaged a civilian vehicle. No fatalities or injuries occurred.
