A fierce confrontation between members of the National Guard (GN) and a group of armed criminals took place Wednesday afternoon on the highway leading from the city of Durango to the municipality of Mezquital , in the southern part of the state. The preliminary toll from the clash and subsequent operations is three gunmen killed , one National Guard member dead , and 15 criminals arrested , in addition to the seizure of a significant number of vehicles and high-caliber weapons.
According to unofficial sources, the events occurred near the town of Praxedis Guerrero (also known as Lomas de Praxedis or La Loma ). At that location, federal forces were intercepted by the criminals, sparking a confrontation in which three of the attackers and one active member of the National Guard were killed in the line of duty.
Following the ceasefire in the vicinity of Praxedis Guerrero, security forces implemented a broad tactical deployment of pursuit and perimeter search in the surrounding communities.
As a result of these secondary actions, the National Guard personnel managed to subdue and arrest 15 gunmen , among whom three minors were identified, who were part of the criminal cell that operated in the southern region of Durango.
During the raids and search of the area, federal agents managed to seize an arsenal and various logistical supplies used by organized crime:
- A high-powered Barrett-type rifle
- A machine gun
- Three long firearms
- Four handguns.
- 20 chargers
- 711 usable cartridges of various calibers.
- Various tactical operational equipment and multiple steel devices known as " tire spikes ".
- Various doses of marijuana ready for distribution.
Authorities also seized eight vehicles within the perimeter of the operation. Of the seized vehicles, preliminary findings indicate that two had active theft reports, while a third vehicle was equipped with makeshift armor plating.
The area of the confrontation was secured by military and law enforcement personnel to allow forensic experts from the Attorney General's Office (FGR) to begin processing the scene and collecting ballistic evidence. Meanwhile, the 15 detainees and the seized items were transferred to the Federal Public Prosecutor's Office for the preparation of the corresponding case file and the determination of legal responsibility.
