On 5 June 2026, in Esmeraldas (Esmeraldas), unidentified individuals placed and detonated an explosive device outside two homes in the Coquito Alto neighborhood. The explosion caused severe material damage to at least four houses, one car, and one motorcycle. Despite the intensity of the blast, no one was injured. The explosion was intended to intimidate local residents and was related to extortion activities. Authorship is unknown. There were no casualties.
