29th May 2026
On 29 May 2026, at around 02:00, a Russian-origin Geran-2 military drone crashed on the BR1B residential apartment building at no. 45 Brailei street in the Mazepa neighborhood of Galati (Galati), with its full military payload detonating on impact and causing a fire on the 10th floor. Two civilians inside the affected apartment were injured: a 53-year-old woman with first and second-degree burns to her legs and retained glass fragments, and a 14-year-old boy with burns to his forearms. About 70 people were evacuated and around 178 households were temporarily left without natural gas. The drone was part of a swarm of 43 Russian drones launched against Ukrainian targets in the Odesa region near the Romanian border; two F-16 aircraft were scrambled from Fetesti Air Base to track it. The General Prosecutor's Office took over the criminal investigation under articles related to attempted aggravated murder, destruction, and air code violations.
