A fierce gun battle between rival criminal groups took place Thursday night, May 28, in the Riberas de Tamazula area , north of Culiacán, Sinaloa. The preliminary toll from the shootout is one gunman dead and five arrested , two of whom were wounded . It is also known that one of the groups involved belonged to Los Rusos , Mayiza faction .
The incident began when a heavily armed group arrived at a two-story house located on Riberas del Río Street . The attackers began vandalizing the property with the intention of forcibly entering; however, from inside the house, another group of armed civilians repelled the attack , unleashing an intense shootout that lasted for several minutes and alarmed the residents of the area.
Although in the first minutes of the report it was unofficially reported that the armed clash was taking place between law enforcement and criminals, the version was dismissed by the security corporations as official information flowed and it was confirmed that it was a direct dispute between factions of organized crime.
After the shooting stopped, paramedics from the Mexican Red Cross arrived at the scene to provide first aid to those involved. At the scene, the death of a suspected hitman was confirmed; his body was found lying beneath a white car that had crashed into the gate of the vandalized residence. The paramedics also stabilized two of the wounded assailants, who were then transported to a city hospital under strict police custody.
After the explosions ceased, law enforcement agencies from all three levels of government implemented a large-scale perimeter operation in the area. As a result of the tactical intervention, authorities seized the following items:
- Five hitmen arrested (including the two wounded who are hospitalized).
- Two late-model vehicles.
- A property converted into a safe house.
- Various high-powered weapons (long guns, magazines and live cartridges).
The crime scene was turned over to forensic experts and investigators from the State Attorney General's Office for the collection of ballistic evidence and the transfer of the body to the Forensic Medical Service (Semefo). To date, the identities of both the deceased and the five detainees are being withheld by the ministerial authorities, who are compiling the corresponding case file.
