A car bomb exploded in the early hours of Tuesday, June 9, 2026, at the main entrance to the municipality of Escuinapa, Sinaloa . The attack caused widespread material damage, the immediate deployment of security forces from all three levels of government, and profound alarm among the civilian population due to the magnitude of the blast.
Just yesterday in the early morning, a group of thugs who were lying in wait on a corner directly attacked two women and a man who were traveling on a motorcycle. The incident occurred at a gas station where the family was crossing the street. The gunmen, upon seeing them, began shooting at them, and then approached to finish them off. As a result, a 14-year-old girl and her uncle died, while another woman was seriously injured. The authorities did not arrive until dawn.
The incident occurred on the highway leading to the municipal seat. According to initial reports from emergency services, the vehicle explosion generated a shockwave that extended over 500 meters in all directions . Residents of nearby areas reported that the blast shook structures, shattered windows, and violently rattled doors and windows of numerous homes and businesses.
Despite the violence of the attack and the prevailing tension in the area, local authorities and emergency services confirmed that there were no injuries or fatalities. However, forensic experts documented severe damage to the facades of homes and businesses located within the perimeter of the incident.
Elements of the Mexican Army, the National Guard, and state and municipal police arrived at the site to establish a security perimeter. The area was completely cordoned off to mitigate risks from potential secondary devices and to allow forensic personnel to begin collecting ballistic evidence and explosive residue.
This high-impact act of violence occurred in parallel with the official visit of the state governor, Yeraldine Bonilla Valverde , who on Tuesday morning led the Coordination Table for the Construction of Peace in the municipality, together with the mayor of Escuinapa, Víctor Díaz Simental.
So far, no corporation has issued a definitive report specifying the type of explosive material used or attributing the attack to any of the criminal organizations that maintain territorial disputes in the southern region of the state.
Emergency and security teams remain deployed at the explosion site, gathering scientific evidence and assessing the full extent of the damage. Authorities have urged the public to avoid the restricted area, use alternate routes, and stay informed exclusively through official channels and announcements that will be issued in the coming hours.
