Within the framework of the pacification and surveillance strategies being developed in the mountainous region of Sinaloa , the Security Cabinet of the Government of Mexico reported this Saturday on the seizure of a significant arsenal of high-powered weapons , which was found in an abandoned truck in the municipality of Badiraguato .
The discovery was made by members of the Secretariat of Security and Citizen Protection (SSPC) while conducting ground patrols in the vicinity of the Adolfo López Mateos Dam . During the deployment, federal agents located a vehicle that was unoccupied and showed signs of abandonment, prompting them to approach and inspect the vehicle.
As they approached the perimeter, the officers noticed several long guns in the bed of the pickup truck. A thorough search of the vehicle's interior and compartments was then conducted, resulting in the seizure of 50 high-caliber firearms , including the following artillery pieces:
- A high-powered Barrett -type rifle .
- Seven machine guns with anti-aircraft capability .
- Three high-precision rifles .
- Five grenade launchers .
- More than 200 usable cartridges and dozens of magazines of various calibers.
The Security Cabinet specified that both the weapons, which are for the exclusive use of the armed forces, and the seized pickup truck were transferred and placed at the disposal of the Federal Public Prosecutor's Office for the preparation of the corresponding investigation file. To date, law enforcement agencies have not reported any arrests nor have they officially attributed ownership of the arsenal to any of the criminal organizations vying for territorial control in the state.
This logistical blow coincides with an increase in security operations by all three levels of government in Sinaloa, where in recent months reconnaissance patrols, checkpoints, and intelligence tasks focused on neutralizing the flow of weapons and tactical equipment of illicit origin have been intensified.
