A domestic violence incident in Brazil has caused a great stir after a former mayor and current councilman attacked his wife with a firearm while they were in a meeting related to their divorce proceedings .

The incident occurred in the municipality of Ourilândia do Norte , where the victim, identified as 41-year-old Icicléia Alves Veloso , was seriously injured after being shot in the head. Although she was taken to a hospital alive, her death was confirmed hours later due to the severity of her injuries.

The person responsible was his romantic partner Romildo Veloso e Silva , who previously held the municipal presidency of the town and was currently serving as a councilor of the local government.

According to reports released by Brazilian media, the couple went to a law firm to move forward with their divorce proceedings , after remaining separated for approximately three months.

During the meeting, former mayor Romildo Veloso reportedly asked the lawyer in charge of the case for a private conversation. The lawyer agreed and temporarily left the office to give them privacy.

A few minutes later, the lawyer heard several explosions coming from inside the building, a situation that caused alarm among those present and led to an immediate request for help from the emergency services.

Police officers and paramedics arrived at the scene. Upon entering the office where the divorce proceedings were taking place , they found Icicléia Alves Veloso sitting unconscious in a chair with a gunshot wound to the head, although she still showed vital signs.

After receiving medical attention at the scene, the woman was rushed to a hospital, where she was admitted to intensive care. Meanwhile, authorities began searching the property to locate the former mayor, who was identified as the alleged assailant.

During the search, officers found Romildo Veloso e Silva dead inside one of the office bathrooms. According to preliminary reports, a revolver, allegedly used during the attack, was found next to his body.

The scene was secured by the authorities, who began the corresponding investigations to clarify the exact sequence of events.

Hours later, the hospital confirmed the death of Icicléia Alves Veloso as a result of a traumatic brain injury caused by the gunshot wound, a fact that generated consternation among the inhabitants of the community, where both were widely known for their participation in local public life.

Meanwhile, Romildo Veloso and Icicléia Alves' children, aged 15 and 16, not only faced their parents' divorce, but were also orphaned and left in the care of relatives.
