At least seven people were killed, and two others were wounded in two separate intra-communal clashes in Rumbek North County in Lakes State.

Clashes between Manuer and Gak sections on Sunday left three people dead after a foiled cattle raid, and there was also fighting between the Aniin and Gak sections over night cattle thefts on Monday.

Moses Maker Magok, Commissioner of Rumbek North County, said the situation is now calm.

“We are now in Amok Boma of Meen Payam, where an incident occurred on Sunday around 3:00 P.M., where there was a rumor about some cattle being taken by people from the Gak section.

An investigation found that the rumors triggered the clashes, but they were controlled “, he said. “Yesterday, both Gak and Manuer sections of Pakam were about to confront each other, which would have been a big fight, but they were again controlled.

”He said the security forces led by Brigadier General Bol Madok arrived from Rumbek and separated the two sides.

“We took the Gak section to the side of Malek Payam of Rumbek Central County, and the Manuer section was taken to the cattle camp of Angokjok, and there has been no confrontation within Rumbek North except this morning’s (Monday) incident that is now ongoing within Rumbek Central County between Aniin and Gak sections,” Commissioner Maker added.

He said three people reportedly died during the clashes between the Manuer and Gak sections, while fighting between the Gak and Aniin sections left four people dead, leading to tensions.

Akhol Maker, a youth representative in Rumbek North County, confirmed the clashes and said the son of a wealthy cattle farmer, Marial Muorwel Nyot, was among those killed from the Gak section.
