A clash between federal forces and gunmen from the Jalisco New Generation Cartel ( CJNG ) occurred in the town of Rincón de Zetina , Michoacán . The firefight resulted in the arrest of two gunmen—one of them wounded—and the seizure of tactical equipment along with a significant arsenal of high-caliber weapons.
The incident occurred while agents from the State Public Security Secretariat ( SSP ) and members of the Mexican Army were conducting coordinated patrols in the area. Suddenly, the official convoy was ambushed by heavily armed individuals who opened fire on the vehicles, forcing the officers to return fire to protect themselves.
After the exchange of gunfire, police and military personnel managed to neutralize the attack and subdue two of the assailants, while the rest fled. Authorities confirmed that none of the officers were injured during the firefight.
However, one of the arrested hitmen sustained gunshot wounds during the shootout. For this reason, emergency services transported him under strict police custody to a regional hospital for specialized medical care.
During the technical inspection carried out in the perimeter of the conflict, the security forces managed to seize the following material evidence:
Two 7.62x39mm caliber assault rifles (commonly known as AK-47).
22 magazines for long guns and 555 usable cartridges of various calibers.
A tactical vest that bore explicit initials linked to the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG).
The second person involved, who was unharmed, was immediately transferred and placed at the disposal of the Federal Public Prosecutor's Office along with the weapons, ammunition and clothing seized, the agency that will be in charge of resolving his legal situation and integrating the corresponding investigation file.
As a result of this attack, the authorities decided to strengthen the presence of the Interinstitutional Operations Base (BOI) in this region of Michoacán territory.
Government agencies at all three levels implemented a permanent deployment of land patrols and checkpoints in the surrounding communities and secondary roads, with the aim of inhibiting the presence of criminal cells and ensuring public order for the civilian population.
