SAA event in Celaya area, Mexico on Fri 5th June 2026

An attempted robbery of a cargo truck  left one private security guard dead and the driver seriously injured , in events that occurred early Friday morning on the Querétaro-Salamanca highway , a few meters from the turnoff to the municipality of Celaya .

Around 5:00 a.m., emergency lines received multiple reports alerting them to gunshots and a traffic accident involving a delivery vehicle on the aforementioned stretch of highway. The report immediately mobilized law enforcement agencies.

According to initial investigations, the tractor-trailer was traveling normally from Querétaro towards Salamanca . As it approached the Celaya access road , the crew was surprised and intercepted by armed individuals traveling in a private vehicle.

The criminals pulled alongside the cargo truck and violently demanded that it stop in order to carry out the robbery. When the driver refused to stop, the assailants fired directly at the cab; the windshield ended up with at least three visible bullet holes.Cars and vehicles

As a result of the shooting, the truck driver was injured by the bullets, losing control of the vehicle and coming to a stop on the side of the road. Paramedics arrived at the scene to provide first aid and rushed him to a regional hospital, where his condition is listed as serious.

For their part, the emergency services confirmed that the co-pilot, who worked as a private security guard protecting the merchandise , no longer had vital signs due to the gunshot wounds suffered during the attack.

Members of the National Guard's Highway Patrol arrived as first responders to secure the perimeter of the site and the heavy vehicle. They subsequently notified the State Attorney General's Office of the death so that ministerial personnel could be dispatched.

Hours later, forensic experts and Criminal Investigation Agents (AIC) arrived at the scene of the attack to collect ballistic evidence and begin the initial field investigation. Finally, personnel from the Forensic Medical Service (Semefo) removed the guard's body and transported it to their facilities to perform the legally required autopsy.
