Mortar Bomb event in Connecticut, Lake Drive, Enfield area, United States of America on Mon 1st June 2026

A threat investigation involving workers at a new Amazon facility led police to a Connecticut home where officers found what appeared to be a World War II-era mortar round, prompting a bomb squad response and a temporary shelter-in-place order.

Officers were called to a man's name on Lake Drive in Enfield on Monday, June 1, after authorities said he had threatened violence toward workers at a nearby Amazon jobsite, police said. Authorities have not released his name.

Enfield officers went to the man's home, but he initially refused to cooperate with investigators.

However, he eventually allowed authorities limited access to the house so they could confiscate his firearms to investigate further. That's when officers found what appeared to be a WWII-era mortar round, Enfield police said.

The home was evacuated, and police set up a perimeter around the property as the Connecticut State Police Bomb Squad responded. Residents nearby were advised to shelter in place or leave the area.

Authorities later secured the item and said there was no threat of it detonating.

The shelter-in-place order was eventually lifted.

Police have since arrested the man on a breach of peace charge. Investigators said they seized eight firearms, ammunition, and knives from the home.
