Undefined Explosive Device (UED)
Undefined Explosive Device (UED) event in Gadheri area, India on Fri 29th May 2026
29th May 2026
A live unexploded bomb found during house construction work in Gadheri village near Dumna Airport was safely defused by an Army team.
The entire operation, from the discovery of the bomb to its disposal, was completed through coordination between the district administration, police and military authorities. According to officials, the bomb was found on Friday evening at a plot owned by Sunil Yadav in Gadheri village.
Labourers digging a pit for a building pillar, about three to four feet below the ground surface, initially mistook the metallic object for scrap metal.
However, upon closer inspection, its shape appeared suspiciously similar to a bomb, prompting an immediate halt to construction work and a call to the police.
A team comprising CSP, Satish Sahu, personnel from Khamaria Police Station and Bomb Disposal Squad reached the spot and confirmed that the object was a live UXO (Unexploded Ordnance) bomb.
Officials estimated its weight at around 12–15 kilograms, with a potential impact radius of nearly 50 metres. Considering the risk posed by the active explosive, nearby residents were evacuated as a precautionary measure.
The matter was reported to Army authorities and the explosive device was handed over for disposal. Superintendent of Police Sampat Upadhyay submitted a report to the district administration, following which Collector Raghavendra Singh communicated with the Ministry of Defence seeking urgent action.
The Ministry expedited the approval process and directed the Army and the Central Ordnance Depot (COD) to undertake the disposal operation.
On Sunday, Army and COD personnel transported the bomb to a secure location, buried it underground, and carried out a controlled detonation under strict safety measures.
Officials said the site where the bomb was found is located about six kilometres from the Khamaria Ordnance Factory area. The timely identification of the explosive and the coordinated response by the administration, police and Army helped prevent a potentially serious accident.
