At least two personnel of Odisha Police's elite Special Operation Group (SOG) were injured in an encounter between cadres of the Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) and Security Forces (SFs) in Kandhamal District of Odisha on July 10, reports India Today. As per reports, an operation was launched in Uma forests under Gocchapada Police Station limits in Kandhamal District based on intelligence inputs on the presence of Maoists of Kalahandi-Kandhamal-Boudh-Nayagarh (KKBN) Division. During the combing operation, Maoists allegedly opened fire on the SFs, and encounter followed, during which heavy ammunition was reportedly used by the Maoists. Some Maoists are suspected to have been injured when the SFs fired in retaliation.
