Three armed civilians were killed by the Mexican Army in the town of Benito Juárez, municipality of Quitupan, Jalisco, after a chase that began in Cotija de la Paz, Michoacán. The occupants of two pickup trucks attacked federal forces after being spotted on patrol, triggering a shootout that stretched for 23 kilometers. Military personnel repelled the initial attack in Michoacán and pursued the suspects, who were traveling in an orange Nissan pickup and a red Toyota Tacoma. The final confrontation ended in Jalisco, where three of the attackers were killed. Our team was able to confirm the deployment of military patrols securing the perimeter after the ceasefire. The scene was placed under the control of federal authorities for the start of the investigation. The incident highlights the ongoing operational tension along the border between Michoacán and Jalisco, an area of recurring conflict for security forces.
