Mangu militia attack harder, killed three cows, injured one in Plateau

By Zagazola Makama

One person sustained gunshot wounds while three cows were killed and three others injured in an attack by suspected local militia in Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau State.

Zagazola reliably gathered  from sources that the incident occurred at about 2:00 p.m. on Saturday at Kikyua 2 area of Mangu LGA.

The sources said troops of Sector 8, Sub-Sector 81, Gyambwas, under Operation Enduring Peace, swiftly responded to a distress call reporting an attack on cattle by suspected rustlers.
According to the sources, upon arrival at the scene, the troops discovered that three cows had been shot dead, while three others sustained gunshot injuries during the attack.

"The attackers targeted a herd of cattle grazing in the area before fleeing the scene. The troops responded promptly after receiving the report and secured the location," a security source said.
The sources further disclosed that one resident, identified as Muhammad Saidu, sustained gunshot wounds during the incident.
He was immediately evacuated to Aluma Clinic, where he is currently receiving medical attention.
The attack is believed to be linked to ongoing targeted attacks on herders, cattle rustling activities and criminal operations by local militia group in parts of the local government area, security sources said.

Following the incident, troops launched efforts to track down and apprehend the perpetrators, while surveillance and patrols have been intensified across vulnerable communities in the area.

Security officials said investigations were ongoing and urged residents to remain calm and cooperate with security agencies by providing timely and credible information that could assist in the arrest of the suspects.

The authorities reaffirmed their commitment to protecting lives and property and curbing criminal activities across Plateau State.
