On May 26, a polio vaccinator was shot dead and another injured in Beland Manzel area of Gardez, the provincial capital Paktia Province while conducting door-to-door immunization, reports khamma.com. Eyewitnesses reported that the team approached a residence to vaccinate children when the homeowner refused to cooperate. Upon their second request, seeking to persuade the residents to bring the children out for vaccination, shots were fired from within the house.
