On May 24, Assam Police arrested a top ‘commander’ of United Liberation Front of Asom-Independent (ULFA-I) identified as arrested Rupam Asom alias Binod Bora alias Kanto from Tinsukia District of Assam, reports The Sentinel. Rupam was running ULFA-I’s extortion racket in parts of Assam and was named in the National Investigation Agency (NIA) charge sheet in the killing of Bordumsa Police Station officer-in-charge Bhaskar Kalita in 2018. The operation also led to the recovery of a cache of arms and ammunition from Namsai District in Arunachal Pradesh. The recovered items included one M14 rifle, three magazines, and 120 live rounds of ammunition. Additionally, Police recovered several incriminating materials linked to ULFA-I’s militant activities.
