Grenade event in Manipur, Thoubal District area, India on Fri 22nd May 2026

On May 22, a hand grenade and a warning note allegedly linked to Kangleipak Communist Party-People’s War Group (KCP-PWG) were recovered from a Vishal Mega Mart outlet in Thoubal District of Manipur, reports Northeast Now. Following information about the incident, Police and a bomb disposal squad reached the spot and safely defused the grenade. According to officials, the warning note read: “KCP (PWG) Next Improvised Explosive Device (IED) Blasts.” Authorities suspect cadres of KCP-PWG planted the device. The retail outlet, opened on April 30, had reportedly faced opposition from vendors of Thoubal Keithel demanding its relocation. Following the incident, employees and local residents staged a sit-in protest supporting continuation of the store’s operations.
