Two young rangers from Virunga National Park were killed on Thursday, May 21, during an armed attack on a post of the Congolese Institute for Nature Conservation (ICCN) in Kamuhororo, on the southern shore of Lake Edward, in Rutshuru territory, North Kivu.

‎In a statement received by Actu30.cd on Friday, May 22, the ICCN’s provincial office in North Kivu reported that a heavily armed and as yet unidentified group targeted the site, located in the heart of Virunga National Park, early that morning. The victims, Kasereka Valyathire Baraka and Munguakonkwa Mihigo Jacques, were killed while on a nature conservation mission.
