Police Scotland said that reports of unexploded ordnance in Whalsay was a “false call with good intent,” as the object was found to be an engine part.

The update came this morning (Sunday), after police asked people to stay away from the coastline at the northwest of the island between Newpark and Da Banks.

Officers issued the appeal in the early hours of yesterday morning (Saturday), following the discovery of a “suspected unexploded ordnance”.

In today’s update, Police Scotland said the report was a “false call with good intent.

“The item was established as a motor part rather than any type of ordnance and was disposed of by HM Coastguard.”
