People were evacuated and a police cordon was set up after a ‘suspect device’ was found in a Scottish town.

Police said they were called to a house on Fairmount Terrace, Perth, on Thursday evening.

Emergency services were sent to the scene, and the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team was dispatched.

The building and a number of nearby properties were evacuated, and a cordon was put in place while an investigation was carried out.

The EOD team later carried out a controlled explosion on the device.

Emergency services left around 1am and residents were allowed to return to their homes. There were no reports of any injuries.

A 17-year-old youth has been arrested and charged in connection with the incident.

A police presence will remain in the area, and anyone with concerns is encouraged to approach officers or call 101, quoting incident number 2801 of May 21, 2026.
