26th May 2026
On the construction site of the A7 highway, in the area of the locality Secuieni, Neamț County, a worker discovered an 82-millimeter caliber mortar bomb, dating from World War II. At the scene, the Neamț County Emergency Situations Inspectorate (ISU) promptly intervened, sending a team of pyrotechnicians who surveyed the area and found no other munitions. The bomb was safely removed to be destroyed later. This is not the first discovery of this kind on construction sites in Romania; in February 2026, work on the Transylvania Highway was suspended after the ruins of a Roman fort were found. Additionally, in March 2026, an archaeological site with remains from various historical periods was identified on the A8 highway in Neamț County, highlighting the importance of these discoveries for the cultural heritage of the region.
