CITY OF ILAGAN, ISABELA, Philippines — Four men were killed while four others were injured following a shooting incident in Santo Tomas town, Isabela early Sunday, May 24, according to local officials and police.

Police in Santo Tomas confirmed the fatalities but withheld the identities of the victims pending notification of their families.

The four injured individuals were rushed to Milagros District Hospital for treatment, police added.

The shooting occurred as Barangay San Rafael Abajo, known for hosting visitors during festivities, was celebrating its patronal fiesta on Sunday.

In a statement released Sunday evening, Santo Tomas Mayor Leandro Antonio Talaue expressed condolences to the victims’ families and assured them of immediate assistance, including burial aid, financial support, and psychosocial services.

Talaue ordered the town’s peace and order council, social welfare office, and police to conduct a “thorough and swift investigation” to determine the motive behind the shooting and identify those responsible.

He also directed authorities to strengthen security in the village through the deployment of additional police officers and peacekeeping personnel.

The mayor further ordered the provision of medical, psychological, and trauma support to the injured victims and witnesses, and instructed local officials to coordinate closely with affected families regarding funeral arrangements and other assistance.

“The local government unit strongly condemns this senseless act of violence and assures the public that all necessary measures are being undertaken to bring those responsible before the law,” Talaue said.

He also urged residents to remain calm, avoid spreading unverified information, and cooperate with authorities. /cb
