Mine event in Kayin State, Leiktho Township area, Myanmar on Tue 19th May 2026

Mizzima. An ambulance was hit by a landmine explosion in Leiktho sub-township, Thandaunggyi Township, Karen State, leaving one person dead.

Around 9:00 PM on May 19, an ambulance transporting a patient from Mon Kone Village in Leiktho town toward Taungoo town was hit by a mine near 6-Mile Village on the Leiktho-Taungoo highway. The vehicle involved belonged to a charity group based in Leiktho.

As a result of the explosion, a male resident of Thandaung town who was inside the ambulance died, and four others were injured. Among the injured, one individual sustained severe wounds and is currently receiving medical treatment at the 1,000-Bed Hospital in Naypyidaw.

Initial reports indicate that the attack was carried out by revolutionary forces, but detailed confirmation has not yet been established.
