The Jalisco Cartel New Generation (CJNG) carried out another ambush against an elite police unit in the state of Zacatecas. The attack comes amid a series of public accusations by CJNG, in which the cartel claims Zacatecas Governor David Monreal is supporting the “El Mayo” faction of the Sinaloa Cartel. CJNG also alleged that Jalisco Governor Pablo Lemus has ties to the same Sinaloa faction. Separately, they accused the newly appointed commander of the 41st Military Zone in Jalisco, General Isaac Bravo López, of being “a good friend of El Mayo” and actively backing his group. The accusations have revived the saying: “El Mayo has more friends in the government than in his own cartel.”
