Troops Neutralise Wanted Kidnap Kingpin During Operation in Kaduna

 By: Zagazola

Troops have neutralised a suspected notorious kidnap kingpin, identified as Idi Yaya, during an operation in Kauru Local Government Area of Kaduna State.

Security sources disclosed that troops received intelligence at about 6:10 a.m. on Monday regarding the reappearance of the suspect, who had reportedly been on a wanted list for kidnapping activities in the area.

According to the sources, troops immediately mobilised and tracked the suspect to Kikoba community in Kauru LGA, where he was arrested at about 11:15 p.m. on the same day.

The sources said the suspect had previously gone into hiding for several months before resurfacing in the area.

“The intelligence was corroborated by a victim who had earlier escaped from the suspect’s custody and positively identified him,” the sources said.

They added that during interrogation, the suspect confessed to criminal activities and revealed the location of his weapon as well as hideouts used by members of his gang.

The sources further disclosed that while troops were escorting the suspect to the identified hideout at about 9:35 p.m. on Tuesday, he allegedly attempted to escape by trying to snatch the weapon of one of the soldiers.

“In the process of attempting to overpower the troops and attack personnel, the suspect was neutralised,” the sources added.

Eight rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition were reportedly expended during the operation.

Security operatives said efforts were ongoing to track and apprehend other members of the kidnapping syndicate linked to the suspect.

The operation forms part of ongoing security efforts to combat kidnapping and criminality across Kaduna State and neighbouring areas.
