On 18 May 2026, Russian forces (units of the 'West' group using operational-tactical aviation, combat UAVs, missile forces, and artillery) struck the Ukrainian personnel and equipment of two mechanized brigades, an assault brigade, and a territorial defense brigade (coded to Lyman) near Sydorove, Donetsk. According to Russian sources, Ukrainian military lost: 4 armored combat vehicles, 21 vehicles, 3 field artillery pieces and up to 190 Ukrainian servicemen were killed near Sydorove, Horokhovatka, Velyka Shapkivka, Shyikivka, Nechvolodivka and Lyman [Russian MoD reported 190 fatalities.
