On 18 May 2026, Russian forces (units of the 'East' group using operational-tactical aviation, combat UAVs, missile forces, and artillery) struck the Ukrainian personnel and equipment of a mechanized brigade, two assault brigades, two airborne assault brigades, and two assault regiments near Maiak, Dnipropetrovsk. According to Russian sources, Ukrainian military lost: 3 armored combat vehicles, six cars, a field artillery gun and up to 315 Ukrainian servicemen were killed near Mechetne, Maiak, Vozdvyzhivka, Vovchanske, Chervonyi Yar, Rivne, Vasynivka and Lisne [Russian MoD reported 315 fatalities.
