According to local revolutionary forces and residents, a 40-year-old man was killed, and a 20-year-old man and a five-year-old girl were injured by heavy artillery fire yesterday evening (May 21) in Tanintharyi Township, Myeik District, Tanintharyi Region, where the military is increasing its operations.
The artillery shells, fired by Light Infantry Battalion 561 (LIB 561) based in Nyaung Pin Kwin Village about seven miles from Tanintharyi town, hit two houses behind the school in Kywe Htein Kone Village near Bant Law junction, resulting in one death and two injuries.
According to a news and photo release by the Myeik-Dawei District Public Relations and Information Department, the deceased sustained a shrapnel wound to the head, while the young girl suffered injuries to both legs, with her left leg appearing to be severed near the ankle. The other man was seen with an injury to his left thigh.
