Organized crime members carried out an armed offensive in the town of La Cofradía, part of the indigenous community of Santa María Ostula, Michoacán. The attacks began in the early morning hours, forcing the immediate mobilization of community members to assist victims at the conflict zones. Local reports confirm that cells of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel are responsible for these systematic armed incursions against settlements in the Sierra coastal region of the state. The civilian population continues to demand that all three levels of government contain the deployment of criminal groups that are besieging the territory. A source close to the incident told us that bursts of gunfire from high-caliber rifles echoed through the surrounding hills for hours. The community of Santa María Ostula remains on internal civil alert due to the continued attacks by the criminal organization in the region.
