One person was discovered with symptoms consistent with acute chlorine exposure then transported to Coffey County Hospital. A preliminary investigation shows a water plant employee was attempting to exchange a bottle of pressurized chlorine gas believed to be empty with a new full bottle. After it was disconnected, some of the chlorine gas was released. YCVFD verified there was no ongoing leak, and the area had been adequately ventilated. The scene was then released back to the Water Department. Fire and Water Department personnel say there is no ongoing risk to the public. The drinking water also isn’t affected.
