Grenade event in Borås area, Sweden on Sat 23rd May 2026

A live hand grenade has been secured by the National Bomb Suppression Unit in southwest Borås.

The hand grenade was discovered this morning in connection with a shooting in the same area on Saturday night. The cordons around the site will gradually begin to be lifted.

Shortly before 7 a.m. on Saturday morning, a suspected dangerous object was found in an area in southwest Borås. The area was cordoned off and the National Bomb Squad was called to the scene to examine the object, which was later determined to be sharp.

– It is assessed that it is a live hand grenade, says Adam Isaksson Samara, police spokesperson.

The hand grenade has been secured and the cordons around the site will begin to be lifted.

Gunfire during the night

The hand grenade was found in connection with police work on a shooting in the same area. The alarm about the shooting came in at 00:30 on Saturday night after several people heard loud bangs in the area.

When the police arrived at the scene, they found that a window to an entrance door had been smashed. Inside the stairwell, they also discovered that several shots had been fired at an apartment door a few floors up. No one was injured in the incident, but there was material damage.

A suspect was arrested about an hour after the incident.

– The young man was located in another place in town a little later where he was arrested and is now in custody, says police spokesman Adam Isaksson Samara.

He is now suspected of aggravated weapons offenses and aggravated unlawful threats.
