SAA event in Chhattisgarh, Kanker District area, India on Fri 15th May 2026

On May 15, Police disclosed that Security Forces (SFs) had recovered 50 firearms, ammunition and explosive materials from Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) dumps concealed in forest areas of Kanker District, Chhattisgarh, during operations conducted between April 1 and May 14, reports The Print. According to Kanker Superintendent of Police (SP) Nikhil Rakhecha, personnel of the District Police, District Reserve Guard (DRG), Bastar Fighters and Border Security Force (BSF) carried out intensive search and area domination operations in remote Maoist-affected areas following the declaration on March 31 that Chhattisgarh was free from armed Maoist presence. The recovered weapons included one 7.62 mm Self-Loading Rifle-Light Machine Gun (SLR-LMG), one 5.56 mm Light Machine Gun (LMG), five .303 rifles, eight Barrel Grenade Launchers (BGLs), several country-made firearms and pistols. SFs also seized 10 cooker bombs, one arrow bomb, 469 cartridges, 34 BGL shells, 46 kilograms of explosives and gunpowder, four walkie-talkies and other logistical materials. Police stated that the recoveries were part of continuing efforts to dismantle Maoist arms and supply networks across the Bastar region, including Kanker, Bijapur and Narayanpur Districts.
