PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — A bomb threat received by bank in Gresham Wednesday turned out to be hoax, according to Gresham police.

Police said they responded to a report of a bomb threat at a bank in the 100 block of Northeast 181st Avenue around 9 a.m. on Wednesday after an employee said they received multiple messages stating a device had been place in their vehicle.

“The victim of the threat did the right thing by reporting it to police immediately,” said Officer Jarom Sweazey, spokesperson for the Gresham Police Department.

After securing the area, officers use a drone to check for explosive devices. A K9 trained to detect explosives was also used to check the parking lot and bank for potential threats.

Within about 90 minutes, the investigation was complete and the area was deemed safe.

Preliminary information indicates the messages came from a Voice Over Internet Protocol service. The investigation into the origin of the threat is ongoing.
