An armed confrontation between state police officers and armed civilians in the municipality of Trinidad García de la Cadena left two suspected assailants dead. The clash occurred in an area under territorial dispute between the Jalisco New Generation Cartel and the Sinaloa Cartel, key routes for controlling illicit assets to the north. After being overwhelmed by law enforcement, criminal cells set up at least two roadblocks with burning vehicles to impede the deployment of national security forces. The National Guard deployed an air operation using helicopters to locate the retreating assailants, while the official investigation began in the affected area. The use of drug-related roadblocks confirms the persistent regional instability along the border with Jalisco, a criminal pattern that the government is seeking to contain through intelligence gathering and high-intensity security operations. Our correspondent on the ground documented the intense smell of burning rubber and the wreckage of a cargo truck completely blocking traffic.
