On 14 May 2026, suspected Cambodian troops fired M79 grenades and shots near Huai Ta Maria area in Sao Thong Chai, Kantharalak (Si Sa Ket) causing no casualties. Cambodia denied the accusations as baseless and accused Thai forces of detonating unexploded ordnance without notice during a visit by ASEAN military observers. Although no renewed fighting was reported, both sides exchanged protests and maintained heightened military vigilance amid ongoing tensions along the disputed frontier.
